In Banilad, Mandaue City, the Gullas College of Medicine (GCM). was established in 1977 by the family of Don Vicente Gullas and Lady Josefina R.
History:
Don Vicente Gullas and Lady Josefina R. Gullas established the University of the Visayas in 1919 as the Visayan Institute. GCM is a component of the university’s educational system. Its physical facilities were destroyed by the Second World War, and it reopened in 1946 in Argao, Cebu before moving back to its original and current location in Colon Street, Cebu City. It became the first university in Cebu when it received university status in 1948. It has produced distinguished alumni in government service, public administration, and the professions of law, engineering and architecture, pharmacy, medicine, nursing, accountancy, business, liberal arts, education, criminology maritime and nautical, computer studies, and sports and the arts since its initial enrollment of 37 students in 1919.
GCM is committed to the education of men and women, the provision of medical and public health services for the greater glory of God, the eternal well-being of the people of the Philippines, and the temporal glorification of Central Visayas, particularly the province and cities of Cebu, in fulfillment of its purposes, teaching, research, and community service.
